Purpose of Preload Measurement During Transducer Assembly
Ultrasonic bolt-clamped transducers require a controlled amount of bolt preload in order to operate effectively
The best way to ensure sufficient and repeatable preload application, the electrical charges generated in the piezoceramic rings should be measured and targeted in the preloading process.

Ultrasonic Advisors offers a preloading probe which attaches to a general multimeter and transducer electrodes.
The voltage measured by the multimeter is related to the generated charge on the crystals by the following equation:
Preload [N] = 100e-6 * Voltage * Piezo Charge Coefficient * Number of Crystals
